CARD - Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disasters

CARD makes all things related to emergency preparedness, disaster response, and continuity planning fast, fun, and easy for nonprofits, faith agencies, funders, and other stakeholders serving vulnerable clients.

Our creation came in the wake of the October 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, when nonprofits needed a resource for culturally appropriate and sustainable tools and programs to help them engage in preparedness, response, planning, and resilience activities. 

Our partners are community service providers, progressive funders, public health agencies, emergency management organizations, and other stakeholders supporting nonprofits, faith groups, and the diverse communities of the Bay Area.

Our Philosophy is Prepare to Prosper! We've reframed, rewritten, and retooled preparedness that it builds everyday brilliance and disaster resilience.

Our BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal): We will transform emergency preparedness into an empowering, sustainable, fear-free conversation. We seek to kick fear to the curb and have even our most vulnerable people Prepare to Prosper!

CARD champions a fear-free, asset-based approach, backed by research from many disciplines, and field tested with diverse communities across the country. We want more duct tape and less red tape! Let's Prepare to Prosper!
